Your sewing journey

It is a familiar tale; you have been wanting to try dress making for a while but when you first open one of those tissue paper things they can be massively intimidating. Where do you start? There is so much information out there, so many patterns, so many fabric options – it can all be a little too much!

We know first hand that being prepared can help reduce the anxiety and make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable—it’s supposed to be fun remember! That’s why we have decided to write a series of posts that we hope will guide you through the entire process.

Every week we will share a step on a sewing journey that will arm you with knowledge and confidence to take that first step into the wonderful world of sewing.  We will cover everything from choosing between a digital vs printed pattern, what to look for when buying a sewing pattern, measurements, adjustments, fabric, tracing, cutting out, preparing your space and sewing.

The most important thing to remember is that sewing isn’t just about sitting down at a sewing machine and sewing – it’s the whole journey.

We want to show you how to take your time and enjoy the whole process; measuring to find your size, preparing your fabric, cutting out your pattern pieces, pinning and cutting out your fabric and, finally, sewing.

Slowing down and taking your time with every step means that when you are sewing your project will be a joy! Rush through it and you are only setting yourself up for mistakes and heartache.

We will show you how to do each step properly and beautifully and you will fall in love with the wonderful art of sewing.

The best thing about sewing? the more you do it the better you get! Jump right in, don’t be afraid to start somewhere and never think your sewing isn’t good enough. We are our own worst critics and we have to put this aside and marvel at the fact that you are creating something incredible with your own hands.

We recently asked a whole lot of people how sewing makes them feel and these are the incredible words they shared with us!

You can do it! Come along with us and start your own sewing journey! With our guidance and support, you’ll be a sewing goddess in no time!
